YL LoCo Virtual Trivia Night Recap

Image
A stay at home order can't stop us from keeping the party with a purpose happening. We were originally going to host a trivia night fundraiser at Melt in Avon but things have obviously changed. In light of that we had to get creative and innovate a new way to keep the party going.      This past Saturday, May 9th, we took our Trivia Night to Zoom for a fun night together while we are safely distanced. We want to thank everyone who could hop in the Zoom meeting and play with their friends and family, wherever they were. We are so thankful for the funds raised to allow LoCo Young Life to continue to care for and come alongside teenagers.      We had 88 big brains come out for a winner take all trivia brawl. Of course in Young Life it can't be so simple so at some point we had teams sprinting around their homes for a scavenger hunt to earn points for their teams. Hearts were racing! The winning team was "Scott's Tots," but everyone did a really great job.

Young Life Lorain County Continues it's Mission

The Mission Continues      In the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic so many things about everyday life have changed and Young Life has not been immune to the hurdles the outbreak has created. While we have made adjustments for the safety and well-being of students and leaders in complying with the state and federal standards, we have not stopped in the intentional pursuit of our mission to "introduce adolescents to Jesus and help them grow in their faith." One of our first Zoom Clubs  Pressing On     Here are some of the things we are doing to press on and make the most of what God is doing: Weekly Leadership meeting. A time to pour into and check on our leaders as well as creatively collaborate on some of the best ways to reach and care for kids. Weekly Campaigner Bible studies on Zoom. Kids still have a place to come dig deeper into the Word and ask questions. Bi-Weekly Club meetings on Zoom. We make a space to have fun, break down walls, and proclaim the

5 Years & Fiscal Year End

It has been 5 YEARS since we took the plunge into the call God had before us, going on staff full time in Lorain County, Ohio. He has grown and changed me and Megan so much through the past 5 years and our family! We packed up our cars and our brand new puppy, Kota, and drove out to Cleveland unsure of what the Lord really had in store for us. From the time we got hired to our first 3 months, we went from 3 staff in the area to just me. I was hired to be in the area under an Area Director and upon arriving that role was vacant. God stretched us and graciously led us to step into that role as we learned on the run. We have faced a lot of turns like that in our time here but God has been faithful to provide a way. Our family has also radically changed. We are now blessed to have our two boys! Aiden is 3 years old and Fin is 7 months old. God has done a lot of new things in our lives, things we have desperately had to rely on Him for help with. We have had opportunities for ot

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Students from all around NE Ohio at Fall Weekend at Camp Fitch during club We hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and we wanted to share how thankful we are! There are so many things we are thankful for in Lorain County Young Life. We wanted to spotlight just what the Lord did at our annual fundraising Banquet and our Fall Weekend trip with high school students. Banquet Recap             The 2018 Lorain County Banquet was a great success and it couldn't have happened without our great committee & sponsors. We had a room full of adults who care about young people being loved and told about the greatest news that can be told, Jesus Christ and His desire for us. We had an interest in joining our committee and our prayer team. Banquet attendees were able to meet our awesome leaders (Blog post about them coming soon!). While we still have work to do in raising our yearly budget, we were able to raise our financial goal for the evening! Thanks to

Giving Tuesday

The Holiday Season is a time to be thankful and to give. Lorain County Young Life is kicking off the Holiday Season with #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday has grown from what some thought was a fundraising fad to a worldwide fundraising holiday. In 2017 #GivingTuesday resulted in an estimated $274 Million for Nonprofits in the United States during the sixth annual Giving Tuesday event. Are you ready to join in on the fun  November 27th ?  Unfamiliar  with #GivingTuesday? This weekend will have over 330 high school students from around the North Coast Region! We will be taking just over 30 people from Lorain County to join in the fun and hear about the greatest news ever told. The bus will be leaving tonight from BJ's Wholesale in Avon at 8PM. Some students will also be coming separately after play-offs and other sports obligations. If your students want to come, it's not too late! Students are about to have the best weekend of their lives'!  Sean Michael Murphy speaking on our first weekend.      We want to thank Jack Gardner, an Avon Lake student who is on his way to being an Eagle Scout. Jack came to us and asked if he could help us build a better 9-Square so students could enjoy it at our local WyldLife(middle school) Club and at weekends like these. Jack put together a team, spent time engineer
